Steve, I'd be happy to leave the back door open but I'm afraid the racoons and 'possums would wander in seaking airconditioning. 96? today. We're spending the day at the city pool.

Now that's what I'm talking about Daniel.

I will gladly take the BC West coast over any other climate, unless I'm on vacation in Hawaii or something like that, than give me HOT HOT HOT.

Arnt, that sure looks nice, is that a shot from your place or just a nice post card?

We'll keep that back door open Steve, and an extra beer in the fridge for ya. But if you don't claim it in 24 hrs, I can't guarantee that it will still be there
This reminds me of why I like this place; 72 degrees, sunny, humidity 52%, sunrise at 03:44, sunset at 23:02... I'm on vacation, and this year we had the good sense to stay at home and enjoy this beautiful place. Come on over! Trondheim
Yes Arnt - but what about the midge count

Rod, it's just a post card, but the veiw is almost exactly the same as in the house I grew up in (and where my parents still live). I live couple a km's away.

Dave, by midge count I'm guessing you mean the amount of bugs? Yes, it can get nasty in the evenings, especially farther up north in Norway, like Finmark, where I spent one year of military service

I spent the last 2 days on the golf course with 96*-98* temps. Sure could use some of that cool Canadian air moving toward the midwest.

Pardon me now while I re-hydrate!
you guys are making me feel good!! I am looking at a job in Palmdale CA which has been tripple digits for a week or so,, thought maybe i was crazy for thinking about it. but it seems everyone is experiencing the same thing. Anyone have some insight in the area (palmdale) let me know what you think of it... I know its a dry heat. Which means when its 105 degress it only feels like 105..
Mike
Mike, I lived in Bakersfield for nine years, and in the San Gabriel Valley for a couple of more. In Bakersfield, the three-digit temps usually arrived the last week of May/first week of June, and hung around til the first part of September. Boy was I surprised when I moved from B-town to the SGV that it still got hotter than all get out there during the summer, though it did tend to cool off at night.

I've been to Palmdale many times. And Lancaster, and Mojave. It's just plain hot, no getting around it. I'll never forget walking into a Best Western Hotel in Indio at 11pm on a hot August night, and asking the front desk clerk if it ever cooled off there.

He laughed, and said "Welcome to Indio -- three feet from hell!"

Best,

Michael

I'm guessing it wouldn't be polite to point out that today is suppose to top out at 78, but I will anyway. But understand we moved out here from southern New Mexico, where it broke 100 the first week in May this year. So, yeah, we're loving it in Pacific NW.

There was a news blurb somewhere yesterday that this year has been the hotest across the board in the US since we started keeping records. Several new high records and not a single new low record.

Aman to that Brother I got back from the coast this afternoon at 3:30 pm only to find that the fan on the air conditioner caught fire while we were gone. The fire did no damage the house but burned up the filter, and fan motor. The furness is scorched and the closet it was in is smoke damaged bad. but I guess the fire could not get enough air to stay hot. I sure got lucky. It will be Friday before I can get the AC up and running. and it is 105 here.MichaelP38914.9181712963

Michael, glad someone was watching out for you and the fire didn't spread. An inroom swamp cooler isn't the perfect solution, but it will help you sleep at night. Hope the repairs go twice as fast as you expect them to.

Daytime highs here in New Hampsha have been in the 90s for several days, but it does cool off at night, so you can at least sleep. I just wish we could send you guys out west some rain! We got about 10" last fall during Columbus day weekend, and a similar amount a month or so ago. In between it's just rained a lot. All the rivers and streams are 'way up, and everything is GREEN. Including all the mosquitos. Anyway, we've got more than enough water around here, and if you want some please come get it....

Hesh--we'll take that 91 right about now.

Michael--sorry to hear of the fire. You've had a run of bad luck of late; more than your fair share!

Lillian--you've got it made. What a great climate you are blessed with.

All in all, you guys are depressing me!

But thanks for writing.

Steve

Sounds like a hot week in the south east, specificly Knoxville. Weekend in Atlanta was so hot and muggy that sweat was rolling down while sitting on the lawn watching a night-time laser show at Stone Mountain, Ga.

At least our humidity is lower right now in Knoxville.

It's gonna be 105 here today according to the radio this morning. We have had a run of triple digit temp for over a week now I believe. And the weatherman says there's no relief in sight, at least in our immediate future.

Now where out West are you talking about Alan, cause let me tell you that we, on the "Wet" coast don't need no more rain.

Average rainfall in the lower mainland of BC is about 48"/year and that's just enough for me.Rod True38915.8098148148

Hey Steve, look what happens when we keep our doors open up here in the "north"

All the hot air from down "south" makes its way up here.

now just incase you don't know, 36*C is 96.8*F and 44*C is 111.2*F.

So.... can I close the doors now? It's getting a little to hot for me

Well this is my first post, but I thought I'd report in from far Northern Calif. Only supposed to be 113 here tomorrow. Starting to feel like summer. Whats funny is I have a plastic throat plate in my table saw that doesnt expand/contract at the same rate as the cast iron tables, so it gets all bowed up when it starts to warm up.

Welcome to the OLF Darrin!

It was supposed to hit 110 here today but it only made it up to 107. Personally, I'm not disappointed.

For the first time in two weeks, I have the CA off and the windows open-about time I got to blow the stink off-probably literally, because I am still a tobacco user. I do take some credit for the fact that I run 2 large good quality HEPA air cleaners going all of the time. But still, It's me, a springer/aussie cross and a long haired chihuahua-Sometimes I fear that even with my daily shower we smell alike. My basement shop does stay between 40 and 50 RH using a quality dehumidifier. I have a thin piece of walnut that Coe sent me to practice bending. It just lays out and I check daily for movement.Until this evening it was high 90's with 60% and up-near fog all the time. We just got good farmer rain though- those fine poor souls really have neede it.Really, one will be able to see growth overnight;tonight to tomorrow morning -those majestic stalks and wafting silks are so beautiful and comforting---and wonder of all, this will make the sweetcorn plump and overflowing the giant turkey fryer pot this weekend. Remember Serge's steaks-these will be 2" New York Strips, from a whole loin I bought. Seasoned and drenched with fresh squeezed lemon and set in the fridge all day til' the grill is fired up. No luthiery tomorrow. Still racing the anticipated grandson with the glider cradle. Rough sawing the oak and 'hog with my Ridgid TS3650 and then final dimensioned with a few of the LN/Stanley herd-walnut visible dowels and lots of Titebond. I don't begrudge the time away from the OOO-it will be such a wonderful event for me. I'm not married to grandma, but Keri, the birth mother said" This is going to be so special for Papa Mike- the first grandchild born with him a part of the family." My own daughter says she and Chad are "working on it." They have been married 5 years. A little chuckle here,; first date,Sarah and I go to the door to greet Chad, of course the young lady isn't quite ready yet- She introduces us and then" Chad, would you like to see my Dad's shotgun collection?" It's a good thing I grinned- I think he got a little pale. Hope this isn't too boring and personal and drifted away from meteorology too much-see I'm really human!MT

Mike, again for me, great pics of your great looking companions and it's a treat to read a bit more of your family stories, i'm sure glad you're my friend and not my future Father in law, i would have became pale too! Thinkin' of it, That's exactly how my Father in law welcomed me into his family, he said exactly this: "Where's ma shotgun!" no kidding, Thank God he grinned too after he said that!

That sentence about your 2" New York strips got me hungry, headin' for some squeezin' out!

Cheers!

BB King is my guitar inspector. Before he got full size(not quite 4 pounds now at 7 months)he crawled into the soundhole of my Taylor Dread ; I was re-stringing and it was on its back on the oriental rug in my living room. I couldn't find him and was calling all around the little house here. Went back into the living room and saw his little head just poking out. He escaped before I could get the camera out.MT
